June 3: Sheriff Carmine Marceno

Sheriff Carmine Marceno at June 3 Tiger Bay Luncheon

Over the last year, phrases such as “defund the police,” “law and order,” “police violence” have echoed throughout our nation. While our law enforcement every day put their life on the line to protect and serve our community, the deaths of those such as Tamir Rice, Breonna Taylor, George Floyd and Daunte Wright have fueled division amongst law enforcement and communities throughout our country.

Here in Southwest Florida, agencies such as the Lee County Sheriff’s Office have fought hard to build healthy relationships with underserved areas throughout Lee County.

Known for his tough-on-crime focus, Sheriff Carmine Marceno has been recognized for his leadership in these efforts – from his early days as a community policing officer, first in Collier County and then in Lee, to his uncanny ability to remember the names and faces of the people he meets, and his oversight in leading the County’s decline in crime.

Sheriff Marceno joined the Lee County Sheriff’s Office in 2013, and was re-elected in November of 2020.

Sheriff Marceno is the recipient of numerous awards and commendations. In 2012 he was awarded the Collier County’s Distinguished Public Service Award, given to the county’s top public servant. On December 19, 2019, Sheriff Marceno was awarded the 2019 “Outstanding Law Enforcement Executive” award from the Southwest Florida Police Chiefs Association. Sheriff Carmine Marceno is also a member of the Board of Directors with The Lee County Horizon Council. In March 2017, Sheriff Carmine Marceno graduated from the prestigious FBI National Academy Session 267
