Tiger Bay Club of Southwest Florida hosts FGCU’s new head coach Michael Fly on May 23

Dunk City is Back!

Michael Fly
Head Coach, Men’s Basketball at
Florida Gulf Coast University

Longtime FGCU athletic department veteran, Michael Fly has quickly made a name for himself. After serving as an assistant coach on the Eagles’ staff for the last seven years, Fly was named  head coach of the FGCU men’s basketball program on April 5, 2018.  He is looking ahead to the 2018-19 season with excitement.  Join us on May 23 as Coach Fly shares his approach to both recruiting, cultivating great talent and the direction for this upcoming season.

Fly has been a part of more than 150 wins over the past seven years, including FGCU’s historic  Sweet Sixteen run, which captivated the nation and put the Southwest Florida campus on the national radar.

The only remaining member from the 2013 Sweet Sixteen squad, Fly has been an integral and loyal member of the leadership team that’s helped form the men’s basketball culture in every facet.

A 2006 University of Kentucky alumnus, Fly will become the program’s fourth all-time head coach. Fly has led a dozen all-conference selections during his time with the Green and Blue, including two ASUN Player of the Year honors in Sherwood Brown and Brandon Goodwin, and two ASUN Defensive Player of the Year selections in Bernard Thompson and Demetris Morant.

A relentless and respected recruiter, Fly has worked tirelessly to build relationships nationally, regionally and particularly in the state of Florida.  Fly has indicated that the Eagles “will run up and down the court and expects Alico Arena to be a place opponents fear.” Come hear about the direction Coach Fly has in store for the future of Dunk City!
